Services

Premium Recording Service is a tracking and mixing facility owned by Bruce Robison in Austin, Texas. While the studio offers modern equipment including a Pro Tools HD system, it also lends itself well to projects that require solely an analog experience. Highlights include a 70's era Quad Eight Coronado console, a custom-built reverb chamber, and both 2" and 1/2" tape machines.

Andrew Hernandez - Hello, I'm Andrew. I began recording at the age of 8 years old. Well, kind of. I was a regular caller on "The Arner Roll," a local radio show in mid-Michigan that covered the Pistons, Tigers, and Lions. I would record the show on my boombox radio, fascinated by the feedback that would happen when I put the telephone too close to my radio while I was on the air. Todd Arner, host of the show, and popular local TV sports anchor, eventually invited me into the studio as a guest on the show. My first time in a studio of any kind!

At 15, my family moved to Arlington, Texas. I didn't make the Baseball team so, of course, I bought a guitar, a 4-track, and began recording local bands. I had a lot to learn. By the time I graduated high school, I discovered that I loved live recording. I drove up to Waco to record a live show and quickly learned the importance of not locking gear and mics in my sorry excuse for a "remote truck".

At the University of Texas, I was put in charge of Local Live at KVRX. I recorded over 100 bands live on-the-air (Crooked Fingers, Dosh, Smog, Dizzee Rascal, The Hold Steady, Ethan Azarian, etc).

I graduated from UT and found myself at Premium Recording Service. Over the past 3 years I've kept busy engineering records for The Sword, Neil Michael Hagerty, Bruce Robison, Zookeeper, Balmorhea, and many others. I've also had the chance to do some additional work in the studio for Bill Callahan, Alejandro Escovedo, Los Lonely Boys, and Fastball.

I enjoy being on the road as well, having toured the U.S. 6 times with my band (Meryll), and doing an occasional front-of-house sound gig.

When I'm not in the studio, I walk & read at the same time, and go to Weird Wednesday.

Michael Landon - Hello. It's hard for me to write a bio on myself, but here it goes. I began recording at the age of 14 with a couple of tape players and a PA in a bedroom. Unaware that something like a four track recorder existed, I would record onto one tape, play it through the PA, then record any additional parts onto a separate cassette. Lo-fi to say the least. I eventually accumulated enough gear to build an 8 track cassette studio, which would later become a 16 track 1/2" setup in the attic of my home.

Aside from recording my friends bands, I ran a house venue called "Jesse's Bed and Breakfast." I loved putting on shows, but it proved to be an expensive and demanding hobby. I was fortunate to have met a lot of great people along the way.

Some of my recent projects include: A Bear, Army Of Jesus, Triumph Of Gnomes, Stewart Gigantic, Yellow Rebel, Sharon Van Etten, The Lovely Sparrows, The Heirs, Moth! Fight!, Spirit Of Space, Neil Michael Hagerty (asst.), Andy Beaudoin, The Gourds - "haymaker!", Bruce Robison (asst.), Charlie Robison (asst.), The Chickpeas, Crooks, Western Ghost House, Elisa Ferrari, Brazos, Westlynn, Fiction, CANOPY - upcoming
